Standard Tour route shown in blue
The Island Tours of Hoy Standard Tour includes: The Hills of Hoy, Rackwick Bay, Cliffs & Beach where we stop for a picnic, then on to the Dwarfie Stane, Betty Corrigalls Grave, and a drive through designated wild land.
We will stop for free hot/cold drinks and snacks at Lyrawa Hill (111m) for breathtaking panoramic views of Scapa Flow. We also travel through the former World War 1 & 2 naval base and the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery for an opportunity to hear of Hoy’s dramatic wartime history.
Our guides have a sharp eye for wildlife so we’ll be looking out for Sea Eagles, Hen Harriers, Red Throated Divers, Merlins, Curlews, Otters, Mountain Hares and the omnipresent and infamous Bonxie (Great Skua)! Watching for seals during a beach picnic is one of the many highlights.
The tour will end with a short cliff top nature walk to view seabirds and amazing coastal geology or a visit to the Scapa Flow Visitor Museum (Opening May 2020) and then transfer back to the ferry at Lyness.
(Please bring a packed lunch or we can arrange a packed lunch for you from the Island Café)
